cashmere aveline grows up with as much of a silver spoon in her mouth as can be achieved in the districts. her father, mayor dimity aveline, keeps a tight leash on the family due to their numerous public appearances as one of the forefront public facing families of panem. her future is planned well in advance, but in her adolescence it feels more of a comfort than limitation. from the age of four, private tutors come in and out of the home to train her and her brother for the games, ensuring they stay up to date both physically and educationally to set them up for a flourishing adult life. her parents’ wishes are realized when in the 63rd games, gloss brings home the victor’s crown.with what seems like no warning, this means less doting attention on the long-time favorite while all eyes shift to the new victor. even worse, expectations rise and he jets off to the capitol for months at a time. in the coming months, she cements herself as the darling of the aveline family in the public eye. a wily little thing, someone the capitol wants to see more of. someone to root for. it surprises no one when she volunteers for the 64th games, and even less surprise when she wins. having secured the title of being the first siblings to win subsequent years (and both at age fifteen, at that), they are superstars.the first time that cashmere has the displeasure of meeting with snow about why gloss all but lived at the capitol, it is her victory tour. her sixteenth birthday lines up perfectly with the capitol gala, and she rings in the new year with the man who paid to have a vast majority of her gifts in the games sent in. with her almost immediate status as the most popular victor, everyone agrees that it would just be easier to move her to the capitol full time. there, she is sold by snow to the wealthiest of donors and loyalist of friends. in her off time, she enjoys living the live always promised to her, even if she never quite learns how to shake off the disgust within herself.

themes of sexual assault, rape, incest, and suicidality are very present in cash's characterization, but will never be written in detail. if you are uncomfortable with these themes, know that they 100% will not come up out of nowhere and will be adequately tagged! that warning being there, it is important to her character and trauma to note that she has been sold with gloss, but this action is not consensual between the two. it contributes to a strained relationship and a lot of trauma. that is as far as anyone needs to delve into the situation.
cash has a very weird relationship to what happens to her in the capitol. on one hand, it's a job. technically, one that she finds easier than the intense training of her youth. something to provide her a lush life and stability, which is all she's ever been promised of the victor life. on the other hand, if you catch her on a bad day, she is sad and angry and vengeful. she is not an angel, she is a victim of assault. her reaction to trauma is her own.

cecelia's life begins as most do in district eight: on a quilt that saw the birth of her mother, and of her mother before her. she pushes through life, taking care of her younger brother while her parents work in the factories as sewists. a typical life leads her into the unimaginable, when she is reaped as a tribute for the 60th hunger games. her arena consists of a freshwater marsh, teeming with mosquitoes that had bites producing cherry-sized welts on skin, man-eating alligators, and patches of quicksand. unprepared, cece wins by sticking mainly to the low branches of the sparse trees, creating a camouflaged shawl by draping moss over herself and waiting for fellow tributes to walk close enough to be caught in range of a blowgun snagged from the cornucopia's edge.when she gets home, she spirals into the life of an alcoholic, relying on the stuff to get through her days and nights. several years of her life are lost to the bottle and to the darkest corners of her new home. then, an angel. in a moment of clarity, she meets topsy doff while out on a rare walk. before she knows it, they're inseparable. by her twentieth birthday, only four months after meeting, they marry in a small ceremony at the justice building and move into her home in the victor's village. children come quickly, filling the house with laughter and love. perhaps it happened too quickly, but she's always been a proponent of when you know, you know.the 75th hunger games quell announcement sends fear through the spines of all who know and love her. more importantly, she must come to terms with the possibility of never seeing her children grow up, and of them seeing their mother's demise on screen. she and topsy discuss at length what must happen. eight is already in shambles from the beginnings of uprisings. if she were to be reaped, the best thing that they could do in order to bring the least stress down on the district, and thus their family, would be to orchestrate a quick and easy death. unsurprisingly, when her name is pulled, she kisses her babies goodbye and drags herself on stage, knowing that she will never see them again, and that their final images of her will be full of fear.

a little ray of sunshine. she brings light to her little family and keeps things running smoothly. to the surprise of most, her circle of friends is nearly nonexistent. for someone so friendly, her quiet nature lends to being a touch of a loner. however, when she finds a friend, she holds steadfast. while her grades are stellar, she attributes her success more to the forced studying at home by her father. as the child of a mayor, even one appointed by the capitol in the poorest district, she has certain standards to uphold. thankfully, those standards do sometimes include strawberries bought from katniss everdeen.knowing that the mayoral position isn't passed down, or at least not expected (or desired) to be, she works to focus on finding her life's doings. any day could mean the removal of her family's titles, leaving them scrambling to survive. she imagines that they might take up some trade. they've long since lost the skill (and ownership) of her mother's side's sweet shop, and her father never quite picked up on his own family's trade, either. realistically, she knows that her marriage will determine her adult life. the thought brings her no joy, determined to find her own way in life aside from the desires of her parents. in a perfect world, she would play the piano to her heart's content and never look up. not to her father's negligence, to her mother's addiction, or to the quickly crumbling state of affairs.

merrilee undersee's morphling addiction plays a stronger role in her life than she lets on to katniss. a sense of responsibility stains her adolescence, working to take care of what hired servants cannot at home. the care of her mother, trips to the pharmacy, keeping her own grooming neat and befitting a girl of her station, all things that fell on her shoulders too soon. with her father full of work that never seems to rest and her mother indisposed, she has felt like an adult for much longer than her years suggest.
madge has a teensie weensie little crush on katniss. she's not quite sure of it, or what to do with the information, so she does nothing. it's for the best-- she knows what happens when town girls marry out, and she knows that katniss doesn't seem the marrying type regardless.
i'm referring to the two servants known to work for the undersee household as bobbi and ginger! also they're sisters. bobbi's work focuses on the actual tasks and management of cooking and basic cleaning, while ginger is responsible for madge's upbringing.
i write madge with a southern appalachian dialect, meaning she often follows certain grammatical and vocabulary choices that are not common to typical american english. if you ever have questions about what she has to say, let me know!

"fun" is not something that iunia has ever cared so much about. her parents, well respected but poor citizens of the capitol, instill their values of hard work and sacrifice very early on. from the time she is able to walk, she knows her duty. marry well, rise the ranks, and ensure that she stays there. she is money-wise, poised, and a dedicated lover of high society. though she would never admit to it out loud, her childhood diary was full of little clippings from magazines snagged from her mother's waste bin. pictures of fashion ads, tips on how to captivate a room, the habits of a demure woman, the faces of beautiful people, it all fascinated her.by the time she reached university age, iunia's parents had skrimped and saved every last penny to pay for her tuition. scholarship wasn't good enough, she would pay her way like every other deserving lady there. in school, she denies the life of a youth-filled party experience for that of quiet tea, debate clubs, and dinner parties, though they could hardly be called such. her eyes follow the most eligible bachelor of the bunch, caius snow, as closely as she can manage without appearing calculated. by some miracle, certainly not having to do with careful planning by her and her mother, she ends up in the same habit and schedule of library visits. how could she refuse when he asked her to study?her love story involves less butterflies and stomach twisting nerves than she might've expected, but the country seems to be none the wiser. when she marries just a few years after graduation, securing the spot of first daughter of panem, she fits right in. she glows when introduced to a room, able to command a conversation without domineering, and her husband is happy to resign her to the status of a friend and confidant. someone to trust, if not the person he falls into bed with each night, which suits her just fine.

iunia can be cruel, but that does not always make her so. she can be kind, and she can have friends, but she is not known to open up easily. the quickest way to find the darkest sides of her person are to present as any sort of threat to her very carefully curated life.
while not in love with her husband, she views him with very near the honor that one might a god. they are dear companions and trusted allies, life partners. love is overrated. so long as caius is loyal to her, she is loyal to him, and is happy to turn a blind eye to whoever enters his bed.
given the sheer amount of money possessed by the snows, as well as her own social status, iunia does not mind spending on beauty treatments. while not as flippant as many others in the capitol in the changes she makes to her visage, it would be apt to say that she has not aged a day past thirty.

have you ever wondered how someone you know never seems to try for anything and yet ends up with everything? if you ask moxie, the answer is asking sweetly and calling everyone your best friend, even if you know they talk shit about you.
party girl at heart, secretly a fan of every job she's ever had. if your muse sees her leaving the party at six in the morning and showing up for work at eight, she thinks they should mind their business. if a function is full of people to know, she wants to be there.
don't mistake her outward kindness for a genuine nature. it is often self serving. while she does want to be friends with nearly every person she meets, she is wise enough to know how to climb, and in turn has a talent for knowing when others use her for the same purpose.

hollie is the littlest daughter of two young workers at a poor logging camp. she grows up seeing the injustice around her, the way their family and neighbors starve, and the love that grows in the uncomfortable dark. despite the love of her family, hollie finds great pain in the knowledge that she's still years behind her siblings in terms of usefulness, as ivy and kit are eight and six years older than her, respectively. a bout of overconfidence and a lapse in supervision led her to an unfortunate accident at age ten.she snuck out of her house in the late evening, long after her little community had gone to bed, and slipped to the edge of their clearing with their sister's splitting axe for a bit of practice. they picked the remains of a discarded axe and set to work chopping for firewood, sure of the praise she'd receive come morning for a job well done. hours into her endeavor, far too tired to work, one poor swing of the thing lodges straight into her right shin. after much screaming and an unfortunately under-anesthetized surgery, the leg is amputated beneath just the knee. as they grow, it is replaced by a series of carefully crafted wooden prosthetics.by the time that she's reaped for the 73rd hunger games at seventeen, it's second nature. her work in the woods leads to a miraculously easy games, driven by a desire to get home to her family and blossoming love with nichole. unlike their predecessor, johanna mason, hollie's strategy lies in a wicked ability to hide before the strike. as luck would have it, they are gifted with a dense forest of eternal darkness for an arena, brimming with candy-colored fireflies that cast far more light than would be natural. she isn't particularly popular, and the games draw no undue attention.when she returns to seven, it's all they can do to fade into the background without losing her roots. with her victors pension and more free time than anyone else in seven has been afforded in quite a while, she works tirelessly to support the beginnings of rebellion.

as the youngest of five to two sailors of modest means, finnick has always known that he would have to work hard. born as fion, he transitions socially at a young age, transitioning medically with the help of mags shortly before his reaping. while he's never known a day where his next meal wasn't accounted for, he knows better than to hope for the luxuries that cross the lives of his classmates in higher standings. however, where money is scarce, talent grows wild. he is the hardest worker in his training group by a mile, earning the attention of mags flanagan, who showers him in praise and attention, something lacking at his busy home. before he knows it, he spends more of his free time helping her out than he does playing.she gives him one sturdy rule. no volunteering. he's her boy, and she'd like to keep him safe. though he listens to her without question, the odds are not in his favor. he enters the games as a boy and leaves a man, holding the record of the youngest victor at the time of winning, due in part to his remarkable skill with a trident and net, making quick work of the other tributes. no one fails to mention that a pretty face certainly didn't hurt, as he wanted for nothing throughout the games, never facing so much as a growling stomach,on his victory tour, he is presented with a dillema. follow the orders of the president, or a loved one will die. even then, he knows that no one is safe. even a moderately dissatisfied client -- he learns this far too soon -- ends in disaster. in the days following a final attempt to say no, swearing he could handle the consequences, a boat carrying what's left of his family, is lost at sea. by the time of the 68th games, his only remaining family is mags. he continues for her, nothing can take mags from him. when he mentors for the first time in the 70th hunger games, he meets annie cresta, who changes everything.

finnick is a trans man. for all intents and purposes, there will be no interactions before he transitions, and it won't be particularly necessary to the vast majority of plots. for the purposes of the hunger games, as he has already entered the process of medically transitioning, he is reaped and enters the games as a male tribute. i will not debate the politics of this, i have taken canon, kissed it on the head, and shooed it on its merry way.

finnick is hard to make friends with. just because he's nice to a person doesn't mean he likes them, and just because he's mean, doesn't mean he hates them. relationships by and large are ultimately transactional.
he often shows signs of emotional immaturity due to both his very young age in the games and the abuse he faces afterwards. this abuse is never written in explicit detail, but is sometimes mentioned or referenced when relevant to an interaction.

asterid margaret march is born under the early autumn stars to mallow and cadee march, proud owners of district twelve's only apothecary. the family sit in a place in twelve as a middleman between the wealthy merchant class, who see them as peers, and the seam's residents, who use them as a lower-cost alternative to the doctor. this back and forth becomes a place of great tension as asterid grows and comes to question the beliefs of her parents' ambivalence to the seam's well-being.first, it was that all residents of twelve ought to be viewed with respect. their neighbors who called upon the lone doctor were no better than the folks at their door asking for tinctures and oils and remedies for their ailments. money was money, even if it's scrip. then, she's a teenager, and one burdock everdeen continues to catch her eye. a friend, that's tolerable, but as glances get longer, she's warned. "it's unbecoming of little women like you to be seen around with boys like that." before they know it, there she is at the justice building, hand in hand with burdock everdeen. in the following years, she grows her reputation as a healer in the seam, moving beyond just the emergency care of healing those who have been under the lash.the perfect family, complete with two little girls to call their own. and within an instant, the rug is pulled from beneath her feet. burdock is gone, and she is alone with her darlings and no way to care for them. she wants to get up and go find work, but her limbs won't allow her. her mind won't work, she is glued to her chair and bed, only able to stomach bits of whatever food can be scrounged up. though her time in the months following his death come without relief, the recovery brings promise. too late to save the relationship with her eldest, but just in time to coddle her little one back to life, and in time, asterid returns, too.

blair is born as most are out in the seam, in his parent's bed on the same quilt that saw the arrival of his brother. the life laid out for him is one that doesn't deviate from the norm. he'll get through school, and at eighteen he will enter the mines, where he'll work until one day it finally does him in. his older brother logan is both his hero and his enemy, as siblings so often can be, but he knows that at the end of the day he will always be able to count on his family. almost as important, are his friends. closely tied to haymitch abernathy and burdock everdeen, blair keeps his circle tight.he's a generally good kid and has never had trouble finding friends at school, but what he has between his inner circle is like nothing else. not as tied to the ring of illicit activities out in the woods, blair finds himself more often than not in a helper's role. he'll tag along with the boys to hunt and gather or lug things around for hattie, though his ma's not a fan of the behavior at all. still, hard to deny a boy his play when it means there's more on the table come dinnertime.in his adulthood, he's introduced to jill and marries her near instantly. when you know you know, he insists. as true as that is, both parties are happy to admit that some of the speed comes through a desire to get out of their respective family homes and have a space of their own. their family grows quickly and they find in one another what neither thought was possible. in the mine explosion of 70 ADD, blair works on the same crew as burdock everdeen and is killed in the explosion, leaving a widow and three grieving children.

if there is one thing that district twelve will always need repaired, it's shoes. work boots certainly aren't pocket change, and to go down in the mines without them would risk being sent home due to breach of safety procedures. hence, the cartwrights' place in the world. such stable work allows for a bit more stability in the home, she has never wanted for much, though her parents aren't particularly wont to fill the home with frivolous gifts. it's filled with love, and that is more than enough. born to two teen parents just a month before their final reaping, delly understands the desire to grow and change, surely she'd seen it in her parents as they came into their identities as parents while hardly more than children themselves.as she finds herself, she is imbued with incredible levels of kindness. every person is greeted by name with a smile if she is able, and if not, then a smile and introductions. her parents and friends insist that she's never forgotten a face. at the shop, while she has no particular passion for cobblering, she dedicates herself to knowing the craft well enough to take over when the time comes. the addition of a brother provides options, not condemning her completely to the task, but she hasn't gotten so far to think of any long term plans yet. it isn't spoken aloud, but there is a certain determination to not end up as her parents did, with a baby on her hip and schoolwork on the table.sunshine radiates from delly, she isn't hard to befriend and has always found herself surrounded by love, both familial and friendly. while friendship comes easily, she does not focus on the minutiae of romance and finds herself rather underqualified on the topic. by the events of mockingjay, she has had little kisses and flings, there is certainly no lack of interest in the family business, but nothing so plain as romance has held her attention.
